For my senior project I made a company called Sequel. Redesigning peoples used furniture that they did not want anymore. I got all my furniture for free while people were trying to get rid of them because they either did not want the furniture anymore or it was damaged to the point they did not want to fix it themselves. The idea of my company is to take used furniture and repurpose it and give it a second life. It gives old furniture a modern look with a twist. It is a piece that fits into a modern/contemporary home but with a twist to also have it as a bit of a statement piece that will get people talking about it. Some of the pieces just needed to be fixed up a little bit, while others were a total redos. Also, using used furniture helps save the environment, creating less waste. Bigger stores would not have to keep making new furniture and using all new materials to make new products. I created my brand from the ground up and remade every piece myself learning new skills along the way. Working on the computer for my brand and with my hands to create new pieces.
From here down are the before and after pictures of each of the pieces of furniture that I remade.
Process:
For each piece I had to sand them all down. Then fill up any holes, dents, or marks that were showing to get a cleaner look in the end. I decided to paint the pieces I created but if I were to get some that just needed a new coat of stane I would have done that. I hand painted each piece and picked out the handles for the pieces as well. The color choice was mine and something I thought would look good in a modern/contemporary household. I then painted a base layer of white on to each piece then once that dried I put two to three coats of paint on each piece. I did all the upholstery myself and the headwear as well. Each piece had its struggles but in the end they all came together and became my senior project.
