For this project, I developed a series of magazine advertisements based on a previous conceptual design project. The original assignment focused on transforming everyday found objects into a meaningful visual statement. To communicate the growing issue of ocean pollution, I used discarded plastic items commonly found in the ocean to create the image of a powerful wave made entirely of plastic waste.
The design serves as a visual representation of the impact human pollution has on marine environments, illustrating how plastic debris is increasingly overwhelming our oceans. To expand on this concept, I created two additional advertisements using imagery inspired by and sourced from the work of the organization 4ocean. These advertisements were designed to raise awareness about environmental conservation and encourage viewers to take action in protecting the planet's oceans.
Process:
The creation of the plastic wave was a highly detailed and time-intensive process. The piece took approximately 12 hours to complete and, while the final scale was smaller than originally intended, it required a significant amount of precision and patience. Due to the intricate nature of assembling small found objects, the process was both meticulous and labor-intensive.
For the accompanying poster designs, I sourced imagery and quotations from the 4ocean website to ensure accuracy and authenticity in messaging. The selected quotes were incorporated to reinforce themes of ocean conservation and environmental awareness. Visually, I emphasized readability by highlighting the quotes with a light blue accent color, helping them stand out from the surrounding content.
Additionally, I used directional design elements to guide the viewer’s eye toward key information, creating a clear visual hierarchy and improving overall readability across the layouts.
